September 8, 2014 A RAINY DAY IN ADIRONDACKS BRINGS THE LADY BOBCATS VICTORY IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON! By B&SC News Team On Saturday, September 6th, the Lady Bobcats debuted in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) league against Paul Smith’s College (1-1 record). Cold weather and pouring rain could not break the focus of our girls. “We will have to make some adjustments to our game plan because of weather”, said Coach Grigorita just before the starting whistle. Shortly after beginning the game, the attacking trio of Kai Jacobs, Adela Racic, and Monique Surf started to destabilize the opponent’s defense with a variety of moves. The confidence of the Lady Bobcats threw off Paul Smith’s defense and the look of surprise was visible on their faces. The opening goal of the game and of the season came after a ‘’homemade” corner kick that was executed perfectly by Nicolette Weir and finished by Amanda Belsito. It was an historic goal, as it was the first Bryant & Stratton College goal in the USCAA conference. After that, the Lady Bobcats grew wings and the home team could not do anything to stop their assent. The team kept attacking, continually changing the score on the scoreboard. At half time, the team led by a huge 7:1 margin. The second half brought 5 more goals for the team. The host team had their chances as well, but the sophomore goalkeeper, Megan Hagadorn, kept her focus and did not allow any goals. The final horn stopped the game with an impressive final score of 12:1. Four goals were scored by Kai Jacobs, three goals by Adela Racic, two by Amanda Belsito and one goal each by Nicolette Weir, Monica Ferrufino and Monique Surf. “It was a great way to open the season. We are happy with the score. We worked hard during preseason and it showed in our game. However, there is still room for growth and improvement. I think at this moment we are operating at 50-60 % of our maximum. We plan on keeping our feet on the ground and working hard to prepare for the next game,” said coach Grigorita after the game.
