Bryant & Stratton College Celebrates First Graduating Class from Malta Site

MALTA, NY (Dec. 16, 2014) – Bryant & Stratton College is proud to announce the first graduating class from its new location in Malta, NY. The Malta site, which opened in September 2013, prepares students for careers in medical administration and medical assisting, with a focus on hands-on learning opportunities tied directly to the local community. Bryant & Stratton College identified a need for trained medical graduates in the Malta community specifically because of recent growth in the health industry in that area.

The College will honor its inaugural graduating class – a diverse group of impressive women, ranging in age from 19 to 56 years old – with a celebratory luncheon on Wednesday, December 17.

“We are very excited about the success we’ve had in Malta over the past year and are extremely proud of our graduates, who live and work in the community,” says Mike Gutierrez, Assistant Director of New York State Campuses. “Bryant & Stratton is committed to helping students develop the knowledge, skills and abilities that employers want, so they can enter the workforce with the competitive advantage of proven performance in the field.”

When asked about her experience in the program, graduate Ariel Burdick cited the dedication of her instructors, and the impact of the experiential learning opportunities. “The program is designed to be hands-on and the instructors are very involved in tailoring what we learn with how we learn. Our clinical instructor took us to his own family practice and we were able to learn in the field.”

This inaugural class of graduates from Bryant & Stratton’s Malta site is prepared to step right into the local workforce, having spent 160 hours last semester interning with local health care businesses.

“The business community has been incredibly receptive of the new programs at the Malta site, working with the College to create internships, field trip opportunities, and a direct pipeline to employment opportunities for graduates,” said Theresa Morrisey, Medical Administration Practicum Coordinator.

“Employers come to Bryant & Stratton looking for good candidates. Our students take advantage of coaching from employers on how to improve their interview skills and how to be more employable – some of the mock interviews have actually led to real interviews.”

Bryant & Stratton College operates nine sites in New York State in Amherst, Albany, Buffalo, Greece, Henrietta, Liverpool, Orchard Park, Saratoga/Malta and Syracuse, offering degree programs in over 20 fields.
