Home / News / Go Red For Women February 2, 2013 Go Red For Women By B&SC News Team HAMPTON, VA, February 1, 2013 – In honor of February as American Heart Month, the Bryant & Stratton College-Hampton campus, in partnership with MACY’S-Hampton, is hosting a “GO RED for Women Fashion Show” on Wednesday, February 13th at 7pm, at the MACY’S-Hampton Department Store located in the Peninsula Town Center to benefit the American Heart Association and its Go Red For Women campaign. Expect a night of fun, glamour, and celebrations for local community residents who will be revered for their battle with heart disease. National AHA Spokesperson and BSC-Hampton Instructor, Gail Alexander-Wright will be featured as a GO RED Fashion Model and also be honored as a heart attack and stroke survivor. Already this month, she has appeared on the TODAY SHOW with HODA & KATHIE LEE, and has been featured in the February ’13 EBONY, HEALTH and VIRGINIA LIVING Magazines. Gail is also a featured AHA Blogger for the Huffington Post. “We are very happy that MACY’S has chosen to work with us on this event,” says Chris Sawyer, Bryant & Stratton College-Hampton Campus Director, “With most of our student body being comprised of women 24 and older, we felt it necessary to do our part as a College to join the American Heart Association in raising awareness about women & heart health.” AHA statistics report that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women – mothers, sisters, daughters, friends – and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. Heart disease also affects more women than men. For 10 years, women have been fighting heart disease individually and together as part of the Go Red For Women movement. They have proudly worn red, shared stories of survival and begun to understand the truth about women’s hearts and how heart disease can be prevented. More than 627,000 women’s lives have been saved and 330 fewer women are dying per day, but the fight is far from over. This event is free and open to the public.
