Medical coding is a critical part of the healthcare system, helping ensure connected care for patients, smooth communications with insurance companies, and efficiency in operations for hospitals and doctor’s offices. This online training in ICD-10 is tailored for professionals already trained in ICD-9. This is an important training for medical coders, but can also be helpful for appointment schedulers, midlevel providers, physicians, or anyone else who has ICD-9 training.

- Strategies to improve your coding skills
Most students take five weeks to complete this seminar, though one benefit of online ICD-10 training is that you can complete sections at your own pace.
We’ll study the 2016 ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines, with special emphasis on the features that differ from ICD-9-CM. After studying the guidelines and reviewing the format of the ICD-10-CM codes, you will practice assigning ICD-10-CM codes in coding exercises.
Section 2
You’ll get additional practice using ICD-10-CM’s unique features, assigning ICD-10-CM codes in coding exercises and applying ICD-10-CM codes for interactive case studies.
Section 3
This seminar section is devoted to the study of the procedural coding system, ICD-10-PCS. Because all aspects of ICD-10-PCS are different from ICD-9-CM’s procedure coding system, you are provided with information about the ICD-10-PCS code structure and format, and the definitions applicable to this new system. We’ll also review the 2016 Official ICD-10-PCS Coding Guidelines, and you’ll get hands-on practice assigning ICD-10-PCS codes through coding exercises.
Section 4
We’ll practice assigning procedure codes for a variety of procedures, using the pcs_2016 tool and the official, online version of ICD-10-PCS. You will work with instructors to review components of the procedure codes with emphasis on the unique ICD-10-PCS code descriptions.
Section 5
You will take two assessments, one providing additional practice assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and the other providing additional practice in assigning ICD-10-PCS procedure codes.
