Future nurses and healthcare workers to hone skills with opening of new labs at Bryant & Stratton College

Bryant & Stratton College is unveiling three new cutting-edge labs for its healthcare programs at its Wauwatosa campus. The 4,050 square feet of new lab space includes a state-of-the-art nursing simulation lab and new labs for the occupational therapy assistant and physical therapy assistant programs.

“The labs have been innovatively designed to provide authentic experiences encountered in the field,” said Pete Pavone, state director of the Bryant & Stratton Wisconsin Colleges. “This type of education and training is invaluable to area healthcare employers, and gives our students the best experiences for their career after graduation.”

Each of the three new labs helps students hone their clinical skills in a safe environment. The nursing simulation lab is designed to emulate a hospital setting. It contains four fully-functioning hospital beds and a nurses’ station. Students practice real-world skills such as checking vitals, drawing blood and intervening in a heart attack using life-like mannequins. The lab also features an observation area where students and faculty can participate in interactive learning.

The occupational therapy assistant lab teaches students the latest techniques in helping patients get acclimated in home settings. The lab is furnished to allow students to practice everyday tasks with patients, such as cooking, cleaning and getting out of bed.

The physical therapy assistant lab allows students to receive hands-on-learning experiences through practical application of the tests, measures and interventions introduced in the classroom. The lab is furnished with state-of-the –art modalities, treatment tables, and equipment related to the practice of physical therapy.

The new labs are the embodiment of Bryant & Stratton College’s EmployableYOU® classroom-to-workplace experience. EmployableYOU provides students both the theory and exposure to clinical experience to ready them for to pursue positions throughout the healthcare industry. The College works with numerous healthcare organizations to help students gain internship, clinical, and ultimately jobs in their chosen professions. Further, the College’s career services managers coordinate with faculty to make direct introductions of students to area employers, often in advance of graduation, and assistance with writing resumes and preparing for interviews.
