Transcript:

There’s been a growing number of people joining the front lines of healthcare in the past few years, and our sponsors at Bryant & Stratton College are leading the charge with their new nursing program. Here’s an inside look at the department and everything it has to offer its students. Well, as we overcame the pandemic, it was an eye-opening moment for nations everywhere to realize the importance of our first responders and our frontline workers, which includes the nursing staff. Here at Bryant & Stratton College, we recently just got approved for a brand new nursing program. Right, doctor, what can you tell us about it? Well, the program, first of all, is new for the area, but it’s from New York State. We are actually the second of three bachelor programs Pro Syracuse just approved, and we were approved in March. We also have 14 programs in 16 campuses and four states. The nursing tradition at Bryant & Stratton goes back to 2005. We offered our first bachelor program in Wisconsin in 2007, so that part of it is part of our tradition, our ethos, who we are, what we want to do, and how we approach all of healthcare. It was from our response to the nursing community and the healthcare community reaching out to us because, obviously, the issues that you brought up—there are so many needs for nursing. The growth is due to retirements and the expansion of healthcare in Western New York. It took us a while because New York State has a very protracted process. It’s why, in March, we started almost two years ago to do this. There are a lot of components to this; New York State is very particular about that piece of it. With that said, we’re very excited about this, and we’ve been talking about it to all the community groups. We’ve had a huge response from all the major groups—all the ECMC, Kaleida Health, the Catholics, Niagara Falls. All of them want to be part of this experience. Nice. Well, Dr. Schneer, can you tell us a little bit about the program here and what you have to offer the students, including laboratories and simulations like the one we’re in? Sure. We have a 32-month program here. We start with the science courses and then get into the nursing courses as the program goes on. We are currently in our skills lab, so this is where we start with the fundamentals of nursing—bed making, baths, and so on. We learn to use some of the equipment, and then we have an even more advanced skills lab with simulations where we can go through real-life scenarios and really get into some of the in-depth things that our program actually works on. It really goes hand-in-hand with our curriculum. Well, since this program is pretty new, how has the interest been? Well, since we’ve turned on part of the marketing—we have a full promotional program—we’ve had three information sessions, and we’re trying to schedule them every Wednesday. So far, we’ve had 197 attendees, and that number could have changed by today because every day another 8 to 10 people add to it. I’m trying to cap them at 60 so I can keep the informal component of it, because that’s what Bryant & Stratton is known for, and we’re getting a tremendous amount of interest. Well, if our viewers out there are interested in possibly joining the program, what’s the best way for them to learn more information? The best way to do it is to go to the website bryantstratton.edu and look for the nursing program. There is a QR scan thing they can use to reserve a spot in one of the many information sessions that we have. Once we get through that, then we do the application and all the components that go with it. Well, thank you so much for giving us all of this information. Do you mind showing me around a little bit? Absolutely. Thank you. If you’re interested in their nursing program or any of their other programs offered by our sponsors at Bryant & Stratton College, you can visit bryantstratton.edu.
