HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
The following COVID-19 Health and Safety Requirements are being implemented across the College to help protect all members of our community from the spread of COVID-19 and are based on the latest guidance from the CDC; state requirements in New York, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin; and guidelines from their respective departments of health. As with all College policies, violations of these health and safety requirements will be addressed according to the Student Code of Conduct. The Student Code of Conduct is made available to you in the Bryant & Stratton College Official Catalog.
Course Delivery
- Updated 11/03/20
- Course instruction will be delivered in multiple ways: blended, remote, in-person clinical programs and online. Blended Learning and online instruction are not new to us. We have been delivering select classes through Blended Learning for several years and have over 19 years of experience successfully delivering online courses. Many considerations have gone into how each class is delivered. Class delivery methods will vary by program and student. Students should reach out to their campus registrar for more information on their individual class schedules.
- Blended: Combines virtual instruction and in-person meetings. Blended courses have both fewer in-person classes and an online component. Because the virtual portion is self-directed, students will benefit from additional flexibility. This further allows students to enjoy the benefits of on-campus learning while connecting with students and faculty through a virtual environment.
- Remote: Simulates a campus environment supported by robust, real-time video interactions online. Like blended courses, the Remote Classroom allows students to enjoy the benefits of on-campus learning and connecting with students and faculty through a virtual environment. Fully remote classes do not require students to come to the campus for any course-related reason. Students in the Remote Classroom experience will have live instruction during designated class times.
- In-Person Clinical Program Courses: Instruction is delivered fully in the classroom/lab with interaction between the instructor and student. Students must be able to attend scheduled course meetings on campus. Clinical programs may also contain some blended and remote classes in their curriculum.
- Online: A course delivered entirely online. No in-person class meetings are required. Students in an online asynchronous class complete work within a designated time period
- Internships: Internships will be determined by state guidelines and the College’s partners at placement sites. In addition to on-site placements, the College has introduced virtual project-based opportunities in certain nonclinical programs, enabling students to fulfill internship requirements in the event in-person placements are not available. These project-based experiences will partner a student with an employer mentor remotely. Both the student and the employer can still tackle some real-time projects together through these micro-internships. Students should speak to their campus career services staff directly for more information.
- Communications Plan in the Event of Changes in Operations at Building-Based Locations: The College will follow the state and federal guidelines regarding campus operations. If guidelines require a change to operations (e.g., remote instruction), faculty, staff and students will receive communications about the change via their College email, the RAVE Emergency Alert System and social media

Coming to Campus
- Updated 12/14/20
- The College will incorporate COVID-19 prevention education as part of New Student Orientation. Topics to be covered will include symptoms of COVID-19, hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, physical distancing and face covering expectations. Training will be done in person and/or remotely.
- Students:
- Various protocols have been followed, and safety measures taken, to facilitate students’ safety on campus.
- International Students: International students attending New York-based campus locations may need to quarantine up to 14 days.
- Student Housing: All student residents at the College’s Syracuse Campus are expected to comply with the following requirements:
- Resident students at the College’s Syracuse Campus will be required to be tested according to a testing schedule developed by the College in consideration of then-current circumstances.
Consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an exemption to testing exists for any resident student who tested positive for COVID-19 in the previous 90 days.
- Resident students are strongly encouraged to remain on-campus and limit travel during the term. Residents who leave Onondaga County are required to sign-out with the Director of Residence Life or Assistant Director, disclose their travel plans, and may be required to be retested prior to returning based on NYS and College guidelines, unless the resident student has had a positive COVID-19 test in the past 90 days. Travel to international locations or locations outside of the NYS approved states during the semester will result in that resident’s inability to return to the residence hall.
- Although student residents are not required to wear face coverings while in their own private residence hall room, they ARE required to wear face coverings at all other times when outside of their room. If at any time a resident is visiting another room, all parties present are required to wear face coverings. Student residents also are expected to wear face coverings while in the dining hall when six feet of physical distancing is not able to be maintained.
- Laundry rooms will be limited to no more than three students actually doing laundry at one time. Laundry room sign-up schedules are required in order to allow student resident access to the facility while maintaining physical distancing.
- Visitors: Visitors will be allowed at the College, but they are expected to comply with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines, as well as the requirements of this plan. Visitors are not permitted in the residence halls.
- Vulnerable Populations: Students may request an accommodation supported by a physician's certification. Students will be instructed to work with the campus's ADA coordinator. Accommodations may include remote instruction and/or a staggered schedule.

Physical Distancing
- Updated 12/14/20
- In accordance with CDC guidance, the College will work to encourage physical distancing among staff, faculty and/or students.
- The College will adhere to any applicable orders on gathering sizes.
- Common areas will have CDC-recommended signs posted and contain social distancing markers.
- Classrooms: Course format (in-person, blended or fully remote) will be based on course goals and curricular/clinical requirements. In-person, seated classroom instruction will be designed to provide physical distancing to the extent possible.
- Labs: The Library, Computer Labs and Learning Center will be open. Services will be available remotely and in person.
- Dining Services and Common Areas: All on-campus services will follow their respective state’s guidance for restaurant and retail establishments. The following measures are being implemented: enhanced cleaning and hygiene protocols, increased frequency of cleaning of high-touch surfaces, placement of tables such that they are at least six feet apart (where possible), the limiting of occupancy in accordance with individual state guidelines.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Updated 12/14/20
- The CDC advises wearing a mask or face covering in public settings where physical distancing is difficult to maintain. All students, faculty and staff are required to wear face coverings on campus except while alone in a private residence hall room, office or other enclosed space.
- Face coverings must be worn properly, covering both the nose and the mouth.
- Face covering expectations will be covered during New Student Orientation.
- The College will post signage throughout the campus to remind personnel, faculty and students about appropriate use of PPE.
Hygiene, Cleaning & Disinfection Protocols
- Updated 8/10/20
- The College will engage in enhanced cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing protocols suggested by the CDC. Please contact your campus for specific cleaning schedules and details.
- All members of the College community are urged to have a personal supply of hand sanitizer and to use it frequently. Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout all buildings. Signage reminding members of our community of the importance of hygiene and social distancing has been strategically placed around the campus.
- While on campus, students and staff shall limit the sharing of objects, including desks, supplies and workstations. The touching of shared surfaces is discouraged. If shared surfaces must be touched, hands should be washed or sanitized before and after contact. Sharing of items that are difficult to clean or disinfect is discouraged.

Student & Staff Health
- Updated 10/19/20
- The College has implemented a mandatory self-screen health assessment via covidtracker.org. All staff, students and visitors must complete the assessment each day prior to coming to a Bryant & Stratton College location, clinical site or athletic facility. The screening includes questions about (1) COVID-19 symptoms; (2) laboratory confirmed positive COVID-19 test in the past 14 days; (3) close contact with laboratory confirmed positive COVID-19 case in the past 14 days and (4) self-certification of body temperature below 100.4° F. If any staff or student receives a red flag as part of completing this health assessment, he/she is instructed to discuss the screening with the appropriate person in order to follow protocol set out regarding presence of COVID-19 symptoms or close contact with a laboratory confirmed positive case of COVID-19, as outlined below. Any visitors who receive a red flag as part of completing this health assessment will not be permitted to enter.
- The College recommends any student, faculty or staff member demonstrating COVID-19 symptoms be tested for COVID-19. The College will work with the local Department of Health to provide information on available testing sites. If tests are unavailable, students, faculty and/or staff are to follow the CDC and Department of Health self-isolation guidelines below.
- Any student or staff member positive for COVID-19 (or symptomatic with no test, or symptomatic and awaiting a test result) must self-isolate and cannot return to campus until released to do so by their healthcare provider. If not receiving treatment from a healthcare provider, the infected individual cannot return to campus until he/she has been fever free for at least 72 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine and at least ten days have passed since symptoms first appeared and there has been improvement in other symptoms.
- The College will contact the local Department of Health to report a positive test, provide any required information and participate in any follow-up efforts as directed by the Department of Health.
- If a student receives a red flag as part of completing the mandatory self-screen health assessment because they have had close contact with a laboratory confirmed positive case of COVID-19, the student must self-quarantine for 14 days from the date of last contact. The CDC defines "close contact" as being within 6 feet of a laboratory confirmed positive case of COVID-19 for more than 15 minutes, or having direct contact with the infected person's respiratory secretions (i.e., sharing utensils or drinking glass).
- A student should plan to communicate immediately with their faculty if they need to stay home due to illness or because they have had close contact with a laboratory confirmed positive case of COVID-19. We understand your situation may change rapidly. Our goal is to keep our students on track, and we will individually consult with you regarding your options and work with faculty regarding weekly deadlines, etc.
