The Hybrid Occupational Therapy Assistant Program in Wauwatosa, WI (with lab locations in Greece, NY, Solon, OH, Virginia Beach, VA, and Wauwatosa, WI) and the in-person Syracuse, NY program, are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) located at 7501 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite 510E, Bethesda, MD 20814. ACOTE’s telephone number is 301-652-AOTA, and its Web address is www.acoteonline.org.

ACOTE accredited occupational therapy assistant education programs satisfy state educational requirements in all states. Students graduating from an ACOTE accredited occupational therapy assistant program are eligible to take the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification examination and apply for licensure in all states. Graduates of the hybrid and face-to-face Syracuse programs will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapy assistant administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA). In addition to passing the NBCOT exam, all states require licensure or authorization in order to practice. The College recommends that students contact the occupational therapy licensing board of any state to determine any other requirements for licensure such as application and licensing fees, and criminal background checks or visit the American Occupational Therapy Association licensure webpage for more information.

Note that a felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure or authorization.
