Village of Mount Pleasant Unanimously Approves Ordinance to Allow for Rezoning
MILWAUKEE (January 9, 2018) – Bryant & Stratton College announces an expansion of its footprint with the opening of a new Racine campus in May 2018 that will serve current and potential students in Racine, Kenosha, and Lake Counties.
The new campus adds to the growing momentum of the area, including recent announcements surrounding Foxconn’s $10 billion factory and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin’s proposed plan to build a 30,000 square-foot clinic. With more than a million residents in the tri-county area, Bryant & Stratton College is positioning itself to meet the educational demands of the region.
“Large demand from that area is driving us to go where the students are,” said Greg Brandner, Wisconsin Market Director at Bryant & Stratton College. “ We currently have many students commuting from Racine, Kenosha, and Lake Counties to one of our three Milwaukee-area campuses. The decision to establish a location in Mount Pleasant was not driven by Foxconn, but that is a benefit. We anticipate accommodating 50 to 75 students in the first year with a maximum capacity of approximately 300 students.”
More than six percent of Bryant & Stratton College’s current students hail from the Racine, Kenosha, and northern Illinois areas, with 11 percent of admission inquiries into the college coming from that area as well.
The new campus will be conveniently located in Mount Pleasant off of Highway 20, just east of I-94. The site, 1320 Warwick Way, is home to the former Racine Athletic Club, which later became Feuk’s Fitness. The Village of Mount Pleasant unanimously approved last night an ordinance that would allow for rezoning.Renovations on the building could begin before the end of January.
Healthcare degrees will be emphasized at the new campus. According to the Wisconsin Center for Nursing (WCN), the shortage of registered nurses in Wisconsin will reach nearly 43 percent by 2040 if no changes are made to current program capacities and infrastructure. The WCN recommends expanding statewide nursing program capacity to 7,500 additional graduates annually by 2020 to meet projected demand.
A campus in Racine would help meet this need. Currently,77 percent of Bryant & Stratton College students coming from the tri-county area are enrolled in nursing and healthcare related programs. Plans for the new campus include on-site medical labs and clinical simulation areas. Healthcare degree programs will include nursing, practical nursing, medical assisting, health services administration, and medical administrative assistant.
In addition to degree programs in healthcare, the Racine campus will also offer accounting, business, criminal justice, early childhood education, human resources specialist, human and social services, and paralegal.
“We credit our longevity for our ability to create and offer educational programs to meet the specific and changing needs of students and employers,” said Brandner. “Our 160-year history has resulted in the development of multiple campuses, various programs of study, an online division, and creation of an athletics program.”
